The Torrent is our development-grade English willow cricket bat, made for the player whose cricket has moved past a first bat. It carries 5–7 straight grains on a visibly cleaner face than entry-grade willow, with 39–41mm edges, a 62–65mm spine and a weight range of 1160–1240g. Every Torrent is hydraulically pressed through eight stages and hand-shaped in our own Meerut facility, and it comes in seven sizes from Size 5 through to Long Blade Long Handle.
At ₹12,999 it sits in the most competitive price bracket in Indian cricket — and it is where buying direct from the manufacturer makes the biggest difference. A bat of this cleft quality normally reaches a player only after a distributor, a wholesaler and a retailer have each taken a margin. Development grade means a cleft that was more mature and straighter-grained than entry level. Expect a cleaner face than a Surge — though genuine willow always carries some natural character, and a bat with no marks at all is usually a bat that has been cosmetically treated.

A visibly better cleft than entry-grade willow
The Torrent is cut from Salix alba caerulea clefts that were more mature when felled and straighter-grained through the blade. In practice that means 5–7 grains instead of 4–5, a cleaner face with fewer specks and less colour variation, and timber that tends to reach its best a little faster once knocked in. This is the step where English willow starts to look like the bats you see in the middle on television.
Eight hydraulic press stages — the same process as our premium bats
Every Torrent passes through eight separate hydraulic press stages, pressure raised progressively across face, edges and toe. Most bats at this price see two to four, because pressing takes time and time costs money. The extra stages compress the surface fibres into a harder, more responsive skin — which is why the Torrent arrives closer to ready than most bats in its bracket, and why the ping holds through a full season. This is the one thing we won't cut, at any price point.
Every cleft inspected by hand before it becomes a bat
Clefts arrive pre-graded, but grading happens in bulk and it misses things. Before a cleft is pressed, one of our bat makers checks it individually for grain run-out, internal cracks, soft patches and toe integrity. Clefts that fail are rejected outright rather than quietly moved down a grade. A Torrent is a sound, straight-grained cleft — the grade describes how clean it looks, never how well it was made.
Factory direct — you pay for willow and labour, nothing else
A bat leaving a Meerut factory normally passes through a distributor, a wholesaler and a retailer before it reaches a player, each adding margin. We removed all three. How to knock in your Torrent English willow bat
The eight press stages do most of the conditioning before the bat leaves us. What's left is yours — and skipping it is the single most common reason an English willow bat fails early.

What is a development grade English willow cricket bat? +
Development grade sits between entry level and Grade 1. On the Torrent it means 5–7 straight grains, a cleaner face than an entry-grade cleft with fewer specks and less colour variation, and timber that was a season or two more mature when felled. The species, the eight-stage hydraulic pressing and the 12-month handle warranty are identical to our Grade 1 and Player Grade bats — what you're paying more for is the cleft, not the standard of the work.
Should I buy the Torrent or the Surge? +
Buy the Surge at ₹7,999 if this is your first English willow bat and your budget is firmly under ₹10,000. Buy the Torrent if you play leather ball cricket every week, you've already owned an English willow bat, or you want a visibly cleaner face with tighter grain. The Torrent gives you 5–7 grains against the Surge's 4–5, which usually means slightly quicker response once the bat has opened up.
Should I buy the Torrent or step up to the Striker? +
The Striker at ₹20,999 is genuine Grade 1 English willow with 6–7 grains, and it's the right bat if you play regular league or representative cricket. The Torrent is the better buy if you play club, school or academy cricket and want the most willow quality your budget allows. Plenty of players buy a Torrent, play two seasons on it, and move up once their standard of cricket demands it.
How long does the Torrent take to knock in? +
Around 6–8 hours of mallet work spread across two to three weeks, then old-ball throw-downs before you face a new leather ball. Because every Torrent goes through eight hydraulic press stages before it ships, the surface fibres are already partly compressed, so your knocking-in is final conditioning rather than the whole job. Oil first — two light coats of raw linseed, 24 hours apart, and none on the splice or handle.
What sizes does the Torrent come in? +
Seven sizes: Size 5, Size 6, Harrow, Short Handle (SH), Long Blade (LB), Long Handle (LH) and Long Blade Long Handle (LBLH) — covering players from roughly age 9 through to tall adults. Choose by height rather than age, and if you're between two sizes take the smaller one. LBLH is the largest size we make and suits players around 6'2" and above who want extra blade length as well as handle length.

Yes — every Torrent is built to order. Choose your sweet spot position from the five player profiles, your bat size, and your handle shape (round, oval or semi-oval). What does the 12-month handle warranty cover? +
It covers handle failure under normal leather ball cricket use for 12 months from delivery. It does not cover blade damage from mis-hits, damage from wet or waterlogged balls, use in tennis ball cricket, or damage traceable to an incomplete knocking-in process. If something goes wrong, message us on WhatsApp with photos and we'll assess it directly — no retailer in between.

How long does an English willow cricket bat last? +
A properly knocked-in and oiled English willow bat used only for leather ball cricket will typically give two to four seasons of regular club use. Lifespan depends far more on preparation and care than on grade — an un-knocked ₹60,000 bat will fail before a well-prepared ₹12,999 one. The biggest killers are skipping the knocking-in, wet or waterlogged balls, tennis ball cricket, and storing the bat somewhere hot like a car boot.
