Player Edition — sausage cricket batting gloves
The Player Edition is a sausage finger cricket batting glove built for leather ball cricket. The palm is sheep leather, protection is high density foam with HDF rolls on the fingers, the back of the hand is cotton towelling and the wrist closes with a velcro strap. The pair weighs 200–220g.
It comes in Mens and Youth sizes and in right hand and left hand pairs. Both matter. A glove that is too big moves on the hand and a pair built for the wrong hand puts the heavier padding on the wrong glove — the two sections below deal with each in turn, and they are worth two minutes before you order.

Mens or Youth — how to measure
Measure from the tip of your middle finger to the wrist crease. That single measurement decides it.

If you are between the two, take Mens. A glove slightly loose is far more comfortable through a long innings than one that restricts the hand — and a tight glove is the most common reason players stop wearing gloves properly in the nets.

Right hand or left hand?
Batting gloves are handed, and it is not about which glove goes on which hand — it is about where the protection sits.
Your top hand — the one closer to the blade — takes far more direct blows than your bottom hand, because it is the hand exposed when the ball rears off a length. So the top hand glove in every pair carries heavier protection on the thumb and the outside fingers.
For a right-handed batter the top hand is the left. For a left-handed batter it is the right. That means the two pairs are mirror images, and ordering the wrong one puts the reinforced glove on the hand that needs it least.
Choose the hand you bat with, not the hand you write with. A surprising number of cricketers bat the opposite way to how they throw, and it is worth a moment's thought before you order.

Almost never impact. Gloves die from being stored damp and from being washed.

Are these gloves for leather ball cricket? +
Yes, and only leather ball cricket. The padding density and the palm are specified for a 156g leather ball. They are not intended for tennis ball or soft ball cricket, where the protection is more than you need and you would be paying for padding you will not use.

200 to 220g per pair. Weight matters more in gloves than most players think, because you carry it through every shot and every run. A heavy glove tires the hands and that shows up in the last hour of a long innings, which is exactly when you can least afford it.
How do I look after cricket batting gloves? +
Air them after every session rather than sealing them into a kit bag, because trapped sweat is what breaks down the padding and causes the smell. Wipe the sheep leather palm with a damp cloth when it gets dirty, never with soap or alcohol, which dry the leather out and crack it. Never machine wash them. Dry at room temperature away from direct sun, and store flat rather than crushed.
When should I replace my batting gloves? +
When you can feel ball impact through the padding on your fingers. Compressed foam no longer absorbs the blow, and at that point the glove is giving you a false sense of protection rather than actual protection. With reasonable care a pair lasts one to two seasons of regular cricket.
