Why one pad and not five

Buy cricket batting pads online, direct from the manufacturer

Most cricket brands sell a ladder of batting pads — a practice pad, a club pad, a match pad, a players' pad — at four different prices. In practice the differences between them are far smaller than the price gaps suggest, and a player who buys the cheapest usually ends up buying again within a season.

We make one. The Killer Edition, at ₹3,499 a pair against an MRP of ₹5,999, in White, Black, Red and Blue, in Youth and Adult, for right and left handed batters. Sixteen combinations of one properly-made pad, rather than four compromises at four prices.

What actually decides whether a pad works for you is the size and the batting hand — not the model. A pad that is too long digs into the instep every time you take guard. Straps on the wrong side catch the other leg when you run a single. Both sections below deal with exactly that, and they matter more than anything else on this page.

Get the size right

Youth or Adult — how to measure

Measure from the centre of your knee cap to the top of your instep, standing naturally. That one measurement decides it — do not guess from age, because two players the same age can need different sizes.

SizeKnee to instepPlayer heightTypical age
YouthUnder 42cmUp to 5'4"Under 15
Adult42cm and above5'4" and above15 and above

Three checks once they arrive

1. The top of the pad sits above your knee cap when you stand naturally.
2. The top covers the thigh above the knee without riding into your hip when you crouch into your stance.
3. The bottom reaches the top of your foot without pressing into the instep when you take guard.

If you have to over-tighten the straps to stop the pad sliding down, it is too big. Send us your measurement on WhatsApp before ordering and we will tell you which size.

Get this right too

Left hand or right hand?

The most common mistake in buying pads online, and the one thing you cannot work around once they arrive.

Why it matters

  • Straps and buckles sit on the outside of each leg
  • So the ball can never strike a buckle
  • And the straps of one leg cannot catch the other when you run
  • Right and left handed batters therefore need mirror-image pads

Choose the hand you bat with, not the hand you write with. A surprising number of cricketers bat the opposite way to how they throw.

What happens if you order the wrong hand

  • Buckles sit on the inside of your legs
  • They catch each other every time you take a quick single
  • The straps are exposed to the ball rather than shielded
  • Nothing about it can be adjusted or worked around

If you are unsure, message us before ordering. It takes thirty seconds to check and it saves a return.

Looking after them

Batting pad care — what actually ends a pair

It is almost never impact damage. Pads die from being stored damp and from being washed.

Do thisWhy it matters
Air them after every sessionSealing sweat-damp pads into a kit bag breaks down the interior padding and causes the smell. Take them out and let them breathe.
Never machine wash themWashing waterlogs the internal bolsters and they never recover their shape or their protection. Wipe the facing with a damp cloth instead.
Dry at room temperatureDirect heat and sunlight harden and crack the facing. Never on a radiator, never in a car.
Store flat or hangingRepeatedly folding in the same place creases the internal structure and weakens it exactly where you want it strongest.

Why buy protection from Ciel Sports

I

Factory direct — the same pad, fewer hands

Protective equipment normally passes through a distributor, a wholesaler and a retailer before it reaches a player, each adding margin. We removed all three. That is the entire reason a pad with an MRP of ₹5,999 sits at ₹3,499 here. The pad is unchanged — only the supply chain is shorter.

II

Sixteen options, not four compromises

Four colours, two sizes, two batting hands. Everything a player actually needs to specify, on one properly-made pad, rather than a ladder of models at four price points where the cheapest is a false economy.

Questions players ask

Cricket batting pads — frequently asked questions

How much do cricket batting pads cost? +

Our Killer Edition batting leg guards are Rs 3,499 a pair, reduced from an MRP of Rs 5,999. Batting pads in India generally run from around Rs 1,000 for basic practice pads up to Rs 8,000 and beyond for branded match pads. Ours sit at Rs 3,499 because you are buying from the manufacturer rather than through a distributor, a wholesaler and a retailer.

What size batting pads do I need? +

Measure from the centre of your knee cap to the top of your instep while standing. Under roughly 42cm you want Youth; 42cm and above you want Adult. As a rough guide by height, Youth suits players up to about 5 feet 4 inches and Adult above that. Measure rather than guess by age, because two 14 year olds can need different sizes.

What is the difference between left hand and right hand batting pads? +

The straps and buckles sit on the outside of each leg so the ball cannot strike a buckle and the straps of one leg cannot catch the other when you run. A right-handed batter and a left-handed batter therefore need mirror-image pads. Choose the hand you bat with, not the hand you write with. Ordering the wrong hand is the most common mistake in buying pads online.

Which colour batting pads should I buy? +

White is traditional and correct for club, league and match cricket almost everywhere. Black is popular for practice, academy sessions and night cricket because it hides ground marks. Red and blue are chosen by teams matching limited-overs kit. All four are the same pad with the same construction, price and protection.

How light are these batting pads? +

Each pad weighs 730 to 760g. Weight matters more than most players realise, because a heavy pad is felt on every quick single and through every long innings, and it is the main reason players stop wearing pads properly in the nets. The 12 cane rods and high density foam do the protecting; the Levlon PU facing keeps the outer weight down.

How do I clean and look after batting pads? +

Air them after every session rather than sealing them into a kit bag, because trapped sweat breaks down the interior padding and causes the smell. Wipe the facing with a damp cloth. Never machine wash them, as washing waterlogs the internal bolsters and they never recover their shape. Dry at room temperature away from direct heat, and store flat or hanging rather than folded.

How long should a pair of batting pads last? +

With reasonable care, several seasons of regular cricket. What actually ends a pair is almost never impact damage. It is straps perishing from being stored damp, and internal padding compressing after being repeatedly folded or machine washed. Look after them properly and they will outlast most of the rest of your kit.

Do you ship batting pads internationally? +

Yes, to more than 50 countries including the UK, Australia, USA, UAE, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. Shipping within India is free with Cash on Delivery available. International shipping is calculated at checkout with typical delivery of 8 to 14 days.

Do you supply batting pads to clubs and academies in bulk? +

Yes. We manufacture in Meerut and supply clubs, academies and retailers directly, with a minimum wholesale order of 30 units. You can mix colours, sizes and hands within one order. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 95481 82993 or see our cricket bat manufacturer and wholesale page.

Do batting pads come as a pair? +

Yes. One order is one pair, a left pad and a right pad, configured for the batting hand you select. You do not need to order two.
