Overview

Cricket Bat Grips, Anti-Scuff Sheets & Mallets

A cricket bat is the most expensive thing in most players' kit bags, and the four products on this page are what stand between it and an early failure.

Grips in packs of six, in two textures. Anti-scuff sheets in packs of three, made from 3M film rather than the cheap facing that goes brittle and lifts within weeks. And the knocking-in mallet that every new leather ball bat needs before it faces a hard ball.

All four are made in our own Meerut facility and sold direct. Together they come to ₹2,100 — on a bat that might have cost you ten times that.

The whole point of this page

₹2,100 of accessories protects a ₹20,000 bat

Almost every bat that fails early fails for a reason that could have been prevented for a few hundred rupees.

Not knocking in is the most common. A new bat that faces a hard ball with uncompressed surface fibres will mark on the first delivery and crack within a handful of innings. That is a ₹800 mallet and a few hours of your time.

No scuff sheet is the second. Once the surface fibres lift, moisture gets into the break and the crack runs deeper with every blow. A ₹233 sheet holds the face together.

A perished grip is the one nobody thinks about. A bat that slips in the hands costs runs, and it costs them in the exact moments you can least afford it.

Buy all four and you have spent ₹2,100 on a bat that might have cost you ten times that. It is the best value in cricket equipment and it is the least glamorous.

Questions players ask

Frequently asked questions

How many grips are in a pack? +

Six, in both the Killer and Players grips. That works out at roughly Rs 100 a grip on the Killer and Rs 117 on the Players. Grips are consumable - they perish, they go slippery with age and they need replacing far more often than players expect - so we sell them in packs rather than singly.

What is the difference between the Killer and Players grips? +

Texture. The Killer is ribbed with raised dots, which increases tack and grips better when your hands are wet. The Players is a chevron or V pattern, which gives a firmer, less tacky feel and wears longer because abrasion spreads across a longer edge rather than on the tips of raised dots. Killer is Rs 600 for six, Players Rs 700.

What does an anti-scuff sheet do? +

It takes the first contact instead of the willow. A hard ball striking a dry bat face lifts and separates the surface fibres, and once the surface is broken, moisture gets in and cracks run deeper with every subsequent blow. A scuff sheet holds those fibres together and keeps moisture out. Ours are 3M film, which stays flexible and stays stuck rather than going brittle and lifting at the edges.

Do I really need to knock in a new cricket bat? +

Yes, at every price. A mallet compresses the surface fibres so the face can take a hard leather ball without them lifting. Four to six hours on our Kashmir willow bats, six to eight on English willow, eight to ten on the big-profile Inferno and Apex Limited, and ten to twelve on the Reserve Edition. Skipping it is the single most common way players destroy a new bat.

How often should I change my cricket bat grip? +

When it stops gripping, usually once or twice a season for a regular cricketer. Rubber perishes with heat, sweat and age. A grip that has gone shiny or hard is no longer doing its job, and a bat that slips in the hands costs you far more than a grip does.

How do I fit a new cricket bat grip? +

Roll the grip onto a grip cone, slide the cone over the top of the handle and roll the grip down. A strong plastic bag over the handle works if you do not have a cone. Remove the old grip first and check the twine binding underneath - if it has frayed, replace that before the new grip goes on.

How do I apply an anti-scuff sheet? +

Clean and dry the bat face, then peel the backing and apply from the toe upward, smoothing as you go to avoid trapping air. Trim the excess around the edges and toe. If the bat has been oiled, let it dry fully first, because the adhesive will not hold on a damp or oily surface.

Do hard tennis bats need grips, scuff sheets or knocking in? +

Grips yes, the rest no. Hard tennis bats are ready to play from day one with no oiling and no mallet work, and they do not need a scuff sheet. A fresh grip is worth having on any bat.

Can I have my bat knocked in for me? +

Yes. Add our preparation service for Rs 500 at checkout on any Kashmir willow bat and we will oil, knock in and fit fibre tape before dispatch. We also offer knocking in as a standalone service - message us on WhatsApp at +91 95481 82993.

Do you supply accessories to clubs and academies in bulk? +

Yes. Minimum wholesale order is 30 units, and since grips come in packs of six and scuff sheets in threes, that is 180 grips or 90 sheets - which is about right for an academy season. Message us on WhatsApp.

Do you ship cricket accessories internationally? +

Yes, to more than 50 countries. Shipping within India is free with Cash on Delivery available. Grips, scuff sheets and mallets are light, so they are inexpensive to add to a bat order.
