Overview
Academy Edition — best cricket bat for academy cricket
The Academy Edition is a Grade 2 Kashmir Willow cricket bat built for leather ball cricket. It carries 40–41mm edges, a 62–65mm spine and a weight range of 1150–1250g, with a multi-piece Singapore cane handle and a 34g premium rubber grip. Every one is hard pressed through eight hydraulic stages in our own Meerut facility.
It sits in a four-bat Kashmir willow range that runs from ₹4,499 to ₹5,999. Across all four the pressing, the handle, the warranty and the free customisation are identical — what changes as you move up is the grade of the cleft. That is the honest way to describe it, and it is the only difference worth paying for.
Every bat is built to your specification at no extra charge. We call you within 24 hours of your order to set the profile, the balance, the weight, the handle shape and the toe shape, and to take the name you want laser engraved on the blade. Nothing is pulled off a shelf.
What makes this one different
Why Grade 2 is the right call for net cricket
Grade 2 is not a lesser bat. For the cricket most players actually play — nets, academy sessions, age-group matches — it is frequently the smarter buy, and here is the honest reason why.
Grade 2 Kashmir willow is denser and less refined in the grain than Grade 1. That sounds like a downside and in one narrow sense it is: the face carries more natural character, and the bat takes marginally longer to open up.
But density is exactly what net cricket demands. A player batting in nets four times a week takes far more impacts in a month than a weekend club cricketer takes in a season. Denser willow absorbs that repeated punishment better than finer-grained timber, which is why academy bats fail at the toe and the edge rather than in the middle.
The three things that actually decide whether a bat survives that workload are the pressing, the toe protection and the handle — and all three are identical on the Academy Edition to our ₹5,999 Player Edition. Eight hydraulic press stages, a fitted toe guard, a multi-piece Singapore cane handle, and the same 12-month handle warranty.
So the question is not "is Grade 2 good enough". It is "am I paying for a cleaner face I will mark up in three weeks anyway". For a lot of academy players, the answer is no — and the ₹1,500 saved buys a decent pair of gloves.

Before your first match
Preparing your Academy Edition
The bat ships hard pressed, so the eight press stages have done most of the conditioning. What's left is four to six hours — and skipping it is the most common reason any bat fails early.
| Step | What to do | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Oil | One or two light coats of raw linseed oil on face, edges and toe. Wipe off excess. Keep oil off the splice and handle. | 24 hrs between coats |
| 2 · Edges and toe | Light mallet taps first, rounding the edges gradually so they can absorb an off-centre hit. | 1–2 hrs |
| 3 · The face | Work outward from the middle, building force slowly. Never strike the splice, shoulders or back of the blade. | 2–3 hrs |
| 4 · Old-ball throw-downs | 30–60 minutes with a used leather ball before facing a new one. | 1 session |
| 5 · Ongoing | Re-oil lightly every 8–10 innings. Store upright at room temperature — never a car boot, never against a radiator. | Season-long |
Questions players ask
Academy Edition — frequently asked questions
Is the Academy Edition good for leather ball cricket? +
Yes, it is built for it. Grade 2 Kashmir Willow, 40–41mm edges and a 62–65mm spine, pressed through 8 hydraulic stages specifically for leather ball impact. Kashmir willow is denser than English willow and more forgiving of hard grounds and heavy use, which is why so many club cricketers in India use it as their main match bat. It is not suitable for tennis ball cricket, which needs a different bat entirely.
What does Grade 2 mean in Kashmir willow? +
Grading in Kashmir willow is about fibre straightness, density evenness from toe to shoulder, absence of internal cracking or soft patches, and correct moisture content. It is not primarily about grain count, which is how English willow is graded, and applying English willow language to Kashmir willow is where a lot of misleading marketing comes from. Grade describes the cleft. It never describes the workmanship, which is identical across our whole Kashmir willow range.
Which Kashmir willow bat should I buy? +
Academy Edition at Rs 4,499 for nets, academy sessions and a first leather ball season. Legend Edition at Rs 4,999 for regular weekend club cricket. Limited Edition at Rs 5,499 for competitive club cricket where you want the widest edges we offer in Kashmir willow. Player Edition at Rs 5,999 if you want the top-grade cleft and the most consistent bat we make. All four share the same pressing, handle, warranty and free customisation.
How does the Rs 500 plus Cash on Delivery payment work? +
You pay Rs 500 online to confirm the order, we build the bat to your specification and dispatch it from Meerut within 48 hours, and you pay the remaining Rs 3,999 in cash when it reaches your door. The Rs 500 confirms the order so we can start the build. Orders outside India are fully prepaid at checkout, as Cash on Delivery is not available internationally.
Can I customise the bat? +
Yes, at no extra cost. We call you within 24 hours of your order to set the player profile, the bat balance, the weight to suit your pickup, the handle shape and the toe shape, and to take the name you want laser engraved on the blade. Every one of those is free. The only paid extra is the optional preparation service at Rs 500, which covers oiling, knocking in and fibre tape.
How much knocking in does the Academy Edition need? +
Four to six hours of mallet work before you use it in a match, plus one or two light coats of raw linseed oil. Because the bat is hard pressed through 8 hydraulic stages before it ships, it needs less knocking in than most Kashmir willow bats, but it still needs it. Never face a new leather ball with an unprepared bat. If you would rather we did it, add the preparation service at checkout for Rs 500.
What sizes does it come in? +
Eight sizes: Size 4, Size 5, Size 6, Harrow, Short Handle, Long Blade, Long Handle and Long Blade Long Handle, covering players from around age 7 through to tall adults. Only our Player Edition goes down to Size 3. Choose by height rather than age, and if you are between two sizes take the smaller one, because a bat you can control beats a bat that reaches further.
Should I buy Kashmir willow or English willow? +
Buy Kashmir willow if you play regular leather ball cricket on hard grounds, want a bat that survives heavy use, and want the most bat available under Rs 6,000. Buy English willow if you want more rebound and a softer pickup and your budget stretches further, starting at Rs 7,999 with our Surge. English willow rebounds better. Kashmir willow is denser and far more forgiving. Both are genuine choices and we make both.
What does the 12-month handle warranty cover? +
Handle failure under normal leather ball cricket use, for 12 months from delivery. It does not cover blade damage from mis-hits, damage from wet or waterlogged balls, use in tennis ball cricket, or damage traceable to an incomplete knocking-in process. If something goes wrong, message us on WhatsApp with photographs and we will assess it directly, with no retailer in between.
Do you ship internationally? +
Yes, to more than 50 countries including the UK, Australia, USA, UAE, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. International orders are prepaid at checkout with shipping calculated there, and typical delivery is 8 to 14 days. Shipping within India is free with Cash on Delivery available. For international or bulk orders, message us on WhatsApp at +91 95481 82993.
Do you supply bats to academies and clubs in bulk? +
Yes. Our minimum wholesale order is 30 bats and we manufacture under your own brand if you want it, with your logo, stickers and colourways. Manufacturing takes 10 days. Full details are on our cricket bat manufacturer and wholesale page.
Where is it made? +
In our own facility in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, by our own bat makers. We are a manufacturer rather than a reseller, which is why a bat with this cleft grade, these edges and eight-stage pressing costs what it does here rather than what the same specification reaches once it has passed through a distributor and a retailer.
