Batting gloves are the one piece of equipment where the buying decision is genuinely technical and almost nobody explains it. The finger construction changes how you bat. The colour does not. Here is the difference.

What doesn’t change between price points

Start here, because it reframes the whole decision.

The materials are identical across all eight of our gloves. Sheep leather palm, high density foam protection with HDF rolls on the fingers, cotton towelling on the back of the hand, velcro wrist strap, 200–220g the pair. The ₹1,999 Killer uses the same palm as the ₹3,199 GripX.

Most brands cut the palm material and the foam density on their cheaper gloves and keep the good stuff for the top of the range. We do not, and we would rather say that plainly than imply a quality ladder that does not exist.

Finger construction is the one thing that genuinely changes how you bat, and it is the decision most buyers skip past on the way to picking a colour. There is no best construction — there is the one that matches how you play.

Sausage finger — the most protection we build

Each finger is wrapped in continuous high density foam rolls with no break in the padding. Nothing gets through to the finger. It is the traditional build and it remains the right answer for anyone facing genuine pace, because the whole length of the finger is covered rather than most of it. The trade is hand movement — your fingers bend against the foam rather than with it.

Split finger — protection with natural movement

Helix · Valour

A single split in the padding on each finger lets the joint bend naturally instead of fighting the foam. You give up a little coverage at the split and get back noticeably more hand movement — which is what wristy players need for flicks, sweeps and working the ball square of the wicket.

Double split — the most movement in the range

Viper Edition

Two splits per finger means the finger bends at both joints almost unrestricted. It is the lightest-feeling and most mobile construction we make. The trade is real and worth stating plainly: less continuous padding than a sausage glove, in exchange for hands that move almost as if they were bare.

Cut finger — the most direct feel of the handle

The fingertips are left open so your fingers make contact with the bat handle itself rather than through foam. Nothing else gives the same feedback through the hands. The fingertips are the least likely part of the hand to take a direct blow, which is exactly what makes the trade sensible — you give up padding where you are least likely to need it.

Sizing: Mens or Youth

Two sizes. Measure from the tip of your middle finger to the wrist crease. Under 17cm you want Youth; 17cm and above you want Mens. Most adult club cricketers take Mens.

If you are between the two, take Mens. A glove slightly loose is far more comfortable through a long innings than one that restricts the hand — and a tight glove is the main reason players stop wearing gloves properly in the nets, which defeats the point of owning them.

Right hand or left hand — and why it matters

This is the detail almost no guide covers, and getting it wrong is the most common mistake in buying gloves online.

Batting gloves are handed, and it is not about which glove goes on which hand. It is about where the protection sits.

Your top hand — the one closer to the blade — takes far more direct blows than your bottom hand, because it is the hand exposed when the ball rears off a length. So the top hand glove in every pair carries heavier protection on the thumb and the outside fingers.

For a right-handed batter the top hand is the left. For a left-handed batter it is the right. The two pairs are mirror images, and ordering the wrong one puts the reinforced glove on the hand that needs it least.

Choose the hand you bat with, not the hand you write with. A surprising number of cricketers bat the opposite way to how they throw, and it is worth a moment's thought before you order.

Weight, and why 200g matters

Ours weigh 200–220g per pair, and weight matters more in gloves than most players think.

You carry that weight through every shot and every run between the wickets. A heavy glove tires the hands, and tired hands show up in the last hour of a long innings — exactly when you can least afford them. It is a small number that compounds across a day.

The cotton towelling back does real work here too. It keeps the glove breathable in Indian heat, which is what stops it getting heavy with sweat over a long innings.

Care, and when to replace them

Gloves almost never die from impact. They die from being sealed damp into a kit bag, and from being machine washed.

Wipe the leather palm, never wash it	A damp cloth only. Soap and alcohol dry sheep leather out and crack it; machine washing destroys the padding and stitching entirely.
Dry at room temperature	Direct sun cracks the leather palm. Never on a radiator, never in a car.
Store flat, not crushed	Compressed foam does not spring back. Store them flat or palm-down so the padding keeps its shape.

Replace them when you can feel ball impact through the finger padding. At that point the foam has compressed and the glove is giving you the feeling of protection rather than protection itself. With reasonable care a pair lasts one to two seasons of regular cricket.
