Build Your Own Player Edition
Six choices. One bat. The specification itself is free — the bat is ₹5,999 however you shape it. Nine sizes from Size 3, so a nine-year-old and a six-footer get genuinely different bats rather than the same bat cut shorter.
Your name
So we know who we are building for — and if you want it on the bat, type it below and watch it appear.
Engraved into the willow on the back of the blade, not printed on a sticker. It does not wear off. ₹300 on its own — included free if you add oiling and knocking in at step 7.
Choose your player profile
Where the mass sits in the blade, and therefore where your sweet spot is. Choose on how you actually score runs — not on which player you admire.
Player names describe a style of profile for reference only. Ciel Sports is not affiliated with or endorsed by any player named.
Choose your handle shape
All three are multi-piece cane. The shape changes how the bat sits in your bottom hand and how much the face wants to rotate through a shot.
Choose your toe shape
Every bat leaves us with a reinforced toe guard fitted. The shape underneath is yours to choose.
Choose your size
Size by height, never by age. Stand the bat beside the player's leg — the top of the handle should reach the hip. Between two sizes, take the smaller: a bat they can control beats a bat that reaches further.
Never buy a size up to grow into. A bat that is too big builds technique habits that take seasons to undo.
Choose your pickup
Choose a size first and we will show the weight range it is built to.
Kashmir willow is denser than English willow, so the same size runs around 30g heavier. If you are moving across from an English willow bat, say so and we will account for it.
Oiling and knocking in
Kashmir willow needs four to six hours of mallet work plus light oiling, spread over two to three weeks, with at least thirty minutes on the edges. Either you do it, or we do it before the bat ships for ₹500 — and your engraving becomes free. This is the single most common way a new bat is destroyed.
Anti-scuff sheet
A clear sheet on the face that holds the surface fibres together and keeps moisture out of small cracks. Fitted after knocking in, never before. Free.
Handle counterbalance
A weight in the top of the handle that moves the balance point toward your hands. It does not make the bat lighter — it makes it feel lighter and pick up more easily. Particularly useful for younger players. Free.

The guide
How to choose every part of your Player Edition
Six decisions, and only two of them cost anything. The rest decide whether the bat actually suits how you play — and profile, the one most buyers skip, changes how a bat plays more than anything else on this page.
Profile: where your sweet spot sits
Profile is where the mass sits along the blade. It decides where the sweet spot is — and different shots meet the ball at different heights. A straight drive makes contact around the middle; a pull, lower; a ball hit late and low, lower still. If your sweet spot is in the wrong place for how you score, your best shots are the ones you hit least cleanly.
Virat Kohli style
Duckbill
Mid-blade sweet spot
Mass sits high in the blade and tapers to a thin toe, putting the sweet spot in the middle. It suits players who score straight and drive through the line, and it picks up light.
Rohit Sharma style
Mid-to-low swell
Our most chosen profile
The swell sits lower, meeting the ball where a pull, a cut or a flick makes contact. If you cannot say where you score most, choose this.
MS Dhoni style
Bottom heavy
Sweet spot toward the toe
Mass carried low, for balls hit late and low and for surfaces where the ball skids on. A specialist choice for finishers and low-bounce pitches.
Andre Russell style
Full profile
No weak zone on the face
Full mass from shoulder to toe with thick edges. A wider effective zone, at the cost of a heavier pickup.
Sachin Tendulkar style
Traditional full
Balanced · every condition
Even mass along a continuous spine. It behaves the same on every surface, which makes it the choice for players moving between grounds and conditions.

Handle shape: how the face behaves in your hands
All three are multi-piece cane with rubber between the layers to damp vibration. What changes is the cross-section — which decides how much the blade wants to rotate as you swing.
Round
Face rotates freely
The traditional shape. Lets the blade turn in the hands, which suits wristy players who work the ball square of the wicket.
Oval
Holds the face square
Resists rotation and keeps the face aligned through the shot. Suits players who bat straight and want control over the face.
Semi-oval
The middle ground
Some rotational control without locking the face. What most club cricketers get on with, and the safe choice if you are unsure.
Toe shape: the end that meets the ground
Every bat ships with a reinforced toe guard fitted. The shape beneath it is yours to choose, and it matters more than it looks: the toe is the point furthest from your hands, so a little willow there has an outsized effect on pickup.
Semi-round
The traditional toe
Rounded corners on a flat base. Even protection, and the most forgiving on a hard, abrasive ground.
Round
Lifts the balance point
A full curve across the base. It takes a little willow off the corners — the point furthest from your hands, where mass costs most in pickup.
Squared
Maximum willow at the toe
Fuller and flatter at the base. Keeps the most willow low in the blade, which suits bottom-heavy and full profiles.
Size and weight: by height, not age
The Player Edition is the only bat we make that goes down to Size 3, so a nine-year-old and a six-footer get genuinely different bats rather than the same bat cut shorter.
| Size | Height | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Size 3 | Around 4'0"–4'3" | 730–830g |
| Size 4 | Around 4'3"–4'6" | 830–930g |
| Size 5 | Around 4'6"–4'9" | 930–1030g |
| Size 6 | Around 4'9"–5'1" | 1030–1130g |
| Harrow | Around 5'1"–5'5" | 1130–1230g |
| Short Handle | Around 5'5"–6'2" | 1180–1280g |
| Long Blade | Around 5'7"–6'0" | 1190–1290g |
| Long Handle | 6'2" and over | 1190–1290g |
| Long Blade Long Handle | 6'2" and over | 1200–1300g |
Stand the bat beside the player’s leg — the top of the handle should reach the hip. Between two sizes, take the smaller: a bat you can control beats a bat that reaches further. Kashmir willow is denser than English willow, so the same size runs around 30g heavier.
Never buy a size up to grow into. A bat that is too big builds technique habits that take seasons to undo, and costs more to correct than the bat saved.
What ₹5,999 actually buys
Player Grade is the top grade of Kashmir willow cleft — straight, tightly spaced grain, correct moisture content, high fibre density. Other sellers market the same grade as “Signature” or “Nurtured” willow and price it above ₹12,000. The grade is genuine; the markup is not.

Why build it rather than buy it off a shelf
A shelf bat was shaped months ago to decisions someone else made. It can be an excellent bat and still have been built for another player’s game. Ours is shaped after you order it — which is also why the specifications cost nothing: the bat is being shaped regardless, so letting you decide how costs us nothing extra.
What customisation cannot do is rescue a wrong size or weight. Those come first, and everything else is refinement.
