Where to Buy Custom Cricket Bats Online in IndiaWhat “custom” should actually mean, how to spot a maker from a reseller, and what it ought to cost
Most websites selling “custom” cricket bats in India are offering you a choice of sticker. Real customisation happens at the point the cleft is shaped — which means it can only be offered by whoever is doing the shaping.
What “custom” actually means
There are two completely different things being sold under that word in India, and telling them apart saves you money.
Cosmetic customisation
A finished bat, already shaped and pressed, with your name added to a sticker or a choice of grip colour. The bat itself is identical to every other unit that came off that production run. This is what most online cricket retailers mean, because it is all a reseller can offer — the shaping decisions were made months earlier by a factory they do not control.
Specification customisation
The bat is built after you order it. Your profile decision changes how the blade is shaped. Your weight requirement influences which cleft is selected. Your handle and toe choices are executed by hand before finishing. Nothing about the bat existed before you asked for it.
Only a manufacturer can do the second kind. That is not a marketing claim — it is a description of where in the supply chain those decisions physically happen.
The simplest test: ask whether the bat exists yet. If it is in stock, ready to ship today, it is not custom in any meaningful sense. A genuinely custom bat cannot ship immediately, because it has not been made.
Manufacturer or reseller? Five ways to tell
Plenty of sellers describe themselves as manufacturers. These five questions sort it out quickly, and none of them are rude to ask.
- “What are your grading criteria?” A maker will describe the cleft — fibre straightness, density evenness, moisture content, absence of soft patches. A reseller will give you a brand name or a grain count and stop there.
- “How many bats do you make a day?” A real answer is a number, and usually a modest one. We make a maximum of forty, which is precisely why every one can be built to specification. A factory turning out three thousand a day cannot give each bat individual attention.
- “Can you send photographs of my actual bat before it ships?” Only possible if they have it in their hands before dispatch.
- “Can I choose the profile and the weight?” If profile is not on the list, they are not shaping the bat.
- “Who do I speak to if something goes wrong?” With a manufacturer there is nobody in between. With a reseller, warranty means an argument between you, them and a factory you cannot contact.
The seven things worth customising
All seven are free on every bat we make. If a seller charges extra for any of them, that is a supply chain cost being passed on rather than a manufacturing one.
| Specification | What it changes | How to choose |
|---|---|---|
| Player profile | Where the sweet spot sits and how the bat picks up | By where you make contact — check the wear marks on your current bat |
| Handle shape | How much the face rotates in your hands | Round for wristy players, oval for control, semi-oval in between |
| Toe shape | Mass at the very bottom, and the balance point | Squared keeps willow low, pointed lifts the balance slightly |
| Size | Everything about control | By height, never by age. Between sizes, take the smaller |
| Weight | Pickup and how long you last | Lighter for timing and long innings, heavier for power |
| Laser engraving | Nothing about performance | Up to 18 characters, cut into the willow rather than printed |
| Preparation | Whether it is match ready on arrival | The only paid option — ₹1,000 for oiling, knocking in and fibre tape |
The profile is the one that changes how the bat plays more than any other, and it is the one most buyers skip past. Our guide to bat profiles covers all five in detail, and there is a deeper comparison of duckbill versus full profile if you are choosing between the two extremes.
Why you should not prepay in full
This matters more in India than most sellers admit.
You are buying a physical object you have not held, from a website, on the basis of photographs. Asking for the full amount upfront transfers all the risk to you before you have seen anything. Plenty of sellers do exactly that, and some of them are fine — but the arrangement is entirely in their favour.
We take ₹500 to confirm the order so we can start building it to your specification, and you pay the balance in cash at your door on delivery. That splits the risk sensibly: we commit our willow and our craftsmen's time, you commit enough to show the order is real, and nobody is exposed for the full amount.
If a seller will not offer cash on delivery on a bat in India, ask why.
Buying a bat online safely — six checks
- Will they talk to you before taking money? A maker wants your height, your level and how you bat, because those change what they build. A seller who just wants the order is selling stock.
- Do they offer cash on delivery? In India this is the single clearest signal.
- Will they photograph your actual bat before dispatch? Not a catalogue image — yours.
- Is the warranty specific? “12-month handle warranty covering handle failure under normal leather ball use” is a real commitment. “Quality guaranteed” is not.
- Do the prices make sense? Player Grade Kashmir willow at ₹12,000 under a name like Signature Willow or Nurtured Willow is the same timber we sell at ₹5,999. The name on the sticker is not what makes a bat expensive.
- Can you find the workshop? A real manufacturer can show you the place. Ours is in Meerut, and the video above is it.

How ordering actually works

|---|---|---|
| 1 · Build the spec | Use our bat builder to choose grade, profile, handle, toe, size, weight and finishing. It sends the finished specification straight to us on WhatsApp. | 5 minutes |
| 2 · We call you | Akshat or Utkarsh confirm what is achievable, suggest changes if your weight will not work in that profile, and take your engraving text. | Within 24 hours |
| 3 · Pay ₹500 | Confirms the order so we can start. The balance is cash on delivery. | Once you are happy |
| 4 · We build it | Cleft selection, 8-stage pressing, hand shaping to your profile, handle fitting, engraving, toe guard. | 5 days |

Questions buyers ask
Where can I buy a custom cricket bat online in India? +
Directly from a manufacturer rather than through a retailer, because customisation happens at the point the bat is shaped. Ciel Sports manufactures in Meerut and builds every bat to order - you specify grade, player profile, handle shape, toe shape, size, weight and laser engraving, and none of it costs extra. Most online cricket retailers cannot offer real customisation because they buy finished bats from factories and simply resell them.
How much does a custom Player Edition cricket bat cost? +
₹5,999 against an MRP of ₹7,999. That is the full price of the bat with every customisation included - profile, handle shape, toe shape, size, exact weight and laser engraving. The only paid addition is our preparation service at ₹1,000, which covers oiling, four to six hours of knocking in and fibre tape before dispatch.
Do I have to pay the full amount upfront? +
No. Pay ₹500 to confirm the order so we can start building it to your specification, and the balance in cash at your door on delivery. In India you should not have to prepay in full for a bat you have not held, and we do not ask you to.
How long does a custom cricket bat take to make? +
Five days to build from the point we confirm your specification, plus transit. Within India that is typically two to three days after dispatch. Internationally allow eight to fourteen days. We photograph the finished bat and send the pictures to you before it ships.
What can I actually customise on a Player Edition bat? +
Seven things, all free. The player profile, which decides where your sweet spot sits. The handle shape - round, oval or semi-oval. The toe shape. The size, from Size 3 up to long blade long handle, nine in all. The exact weight within the grade's range. Your name laser engraved into the blade. And whether we oil and knock it in before dispatch, which is the only paid option.
Is it safe to buy a cricket bat online in India? +
It is, if you are buying from a manufacturer who will talk to you before taking your money and who does not demand the full amount upfront. The things worth checking are whether they can describe their own grading criteria, whether they will send photographs of your actual bat before dispatch, and whether they offer cash on delivery. A seller unwilling to do any of those three is worth avoiding.
Can I get my name engraved on the bat? +
Yes, free, up to eighteen characters. It is laser engraved into the willow rather than printed as a sticker, so it does not wear off. We take the engraving text when we call you to confirm your specification.
What weight should I ask for? +
The Player Edition presses to 1150-1250g. Lighter suits players who bat on timing and play long innings; heavier suits power hitters strong enough to swing it through a full innings. Tell us the weight you want and we will confirm honestly whether it is achievable in the profile you have chosen - willow is a natural material, and a cleft either presses to a weight or it does not.
Does the bat come knocked in? +
Only if you ask for it. Add our preparation service for ₹1,000 and we oil the face, edges and toe, put in four to six hours of mallet work and fit fibre tape before dispatch. Without it the bat ships hard pressed and unoiled, and you will need to do that work yourself before facing a new leather ball. Skipping it entirely is the most common way a new bat is destroyed.
What is the warranty on a custom bat? +
A 12-month handle warranty covering handle failure under normal leather ball cricket use. Impact damage to the blade is not covered, because that is the bat doing its job. If something fails, message us on WhatsApp with photographs and we will assess it directly - there is no retailer in between to argue with.
Do you deliver custom bats outside India? +
Yes, to more than 50 countries including the UK, Australia, USA, UAE, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. Shipping within India is free with Cash on Delivery. International orders are quoted at checkout, and we have local pricing pages for each of those markets.
Can I order a custom bat for a junior player? +
Yes. The Player Edition comes in nine sizes starting at Size 3, and we size by the player's height rather than their age. Tell us the height when you order and we will match it. Do not buy a size up so a child grows into it - a bat that is too heavy teaches a technique that takes years to unlearn.
