Why a Manufacturer Repairs Better Than a Repair Shop

Most cricket bat repairs in India are done by general repair shops working with whatever materials they can source locally. We are a bat manufacturer in Meerut. When we repair your bat, we use the exact same components, presses, and techniques that go into building a brand-new bat.

🪵
We have the willow
When a repair needs a wood patch, splice section, or toe rebuild, we use the same grade of willow we manufacture bats from. A repair shop uses whatever wood they can find. Ours matches your bat.
🔩
We have the presses
Re-knocking and re-pressing a repaired bat properly requires hydraulic pressing equipment. We have the same multi-stage presses we use in production. Most repair shops knock by hand alone.
🤝
We understand the splice
The handle-to-blade splice is the hardest part of a bat to repair correctly. We build splices every day in production. A handle replacement done by a manufacturer holds the way a new bat does.
🏏
We finish like new
Every repair leaves our factory re-knocked, with a fresh scuff sheet, a new toe guard thread, and proper finishing — the same final stages a new bat passes through before dispatch.
Typical Repair Shop
Uses locally sourced wood that may not match your bat
Hand knocking only — no hydraulic pressing
Limited splice and handle expertise
Variable, often unclear pricing
Usually local only — must visit in person
Ciel Sports — Manufacturer Repair
Same willow grades we build new bats from
Multi-stage hydraulic re-pressing and re-knocking
Daily splice and handle-building expertise

Every Type of Bat Damage We Repair

From minor edge cracks to full handle replacement, here is every kind of breakage that can happen to a cricket bat — and what our repair does for each.

📏Edge Cracks

What happens: A split runs along or into the edge of the blade, usually from off-centre hits or inadequate edge knocking. Left untreated it lengthens and eventually reaches the blade.

Our repair: We open and clean the crack, bond it with manufacturing-grade adhesive under hydraulic clamping, reinforce with fibre edge tape, re-press, and re-knock the repaired edge so it performs like the rest of the blade.

✓ Fully repairable — restored to match condition
👞Toe Cracks & Toe Splaying

What happens: The bottom of the bat splits or splays open — usually from yorkers on hard ground, tapping the crease, or moisture damage from wet outfields.

Our repair: We dry the toe fully if moisture is involved, rebuild and bond the splayed wood, re-shape the toe, and fit a fresh toe guard with new thread. The rebuilt toe is sealed against future moisture.

✓ Repairable when caught before it reaches the blade
〰️Surface & Hairline Cracks

What happens: Fine cracks across the face. Usually cosmetic — but if they deepen or the surface has gone soft and dead, the bat needs re-pressing and re-finishing.

Our repair: We stabilise the surface, re-press the face to restore density and rebound, apply a fresh scuff sheet, and re-knock. A tired, dead-feeling bat surface comes back to life.

✓ Surface restored and re-knocked to playing condition
🪓Blade Cracks

What happens: A crack running into the body of the blade. Repairability depends on depth, direction, and whether it crosses the grain.

Our repair: We assess from your photos first. Repairable blade cracks are bonded, clamped, reinforced and re-pressed. We tell you honestly before you ship if a blade crack is beyond economical repair — we will not take your money for a bat we cannot save.

✓ Often repairable — we assess honestly from photos first
🔗Splice Damage

What happens: The V-shaped joint where the handle enters the blade has cracked or started separating. This is the most stressed point on the bat and the hardest to repair correctly.

Our repair: As manufacturers who build splices daily, we can re-splice or re-set the joint properly — something most repair shops cannot do reliably. We rebuild the joint to original strength using production techniques.

✓ Repairable by a manufacturer — our core expertise
🤚Handle Damage & Replacement

What happens: The handle has gone loose, the cane has cracked, the handle twists in the splice, or it has snapped entirely.

Our repair: We replace the handle completely with a fresh multi-piece Singapore Cane handle — the same handle we fit to new bats — and re-splice it into the blade. A re-handled bat from us performs like a new bat from the grip down.

✓ Full handle replacement available
🧶Worn Binding & Loose Twine

What happens: The twine binding around the shoulder of the blade has frayed or come loose, or the bottom-hand binding has worn through.

Our repair: We re-bind the shoulder and any worn areas with fresh twine, re-glue, and re-finish. Included as part of the complete repair — not a separate charge.

✓ Re-bound and re-finished as standard
💤Dead / Soft Surface (No Visible Crack)

What happens: No crack, but the bat has lost its ping — shots feel flat, the surface feels soft, and the ball does not come off the face like it used to. Common in bats that were never properly knocked in or have been over-used.

Our repair: We re-press the blade to restore wood density, re-knock fully, and re-finish. This brings back the rebound and ping of a properly prepared bat. One of our most requested services.

✓ Re-pressed and re-knocked to restore performance

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does cricket bat repair cost?
A flat ₹2,000, all-inclusive. This covers the repair, full re-knocking, a fresh anti-scuff sheet, a new toe guard thread, Ciel Sports branding and finishing, and return shipping anywhere in India. The price is identical for English willow and Kashmir willow bats and does not change based on the type or severity of repairable damage. The only cost not included is shipping your bat to us, which you pay your local courier.
Why are you better at repairs than a normal repair shop?
Because we are bat manufacturers, not just repairers. We have the willow, the hydraulic presses, the splice-building expertise, and the toe guards and handles used in original bat production. When we repair your bat, we use the same materials and techniques that go into a brand-new bat. A general repair shop works with whatever materials they can source locally and typically knocks by hand without pressing equipment. Splice and handle repairs in particular — the hardest repairs to do well — are part of our daily manufacturing work.
How do I send my bat from my city?
Message us on WhatsApp at +91 95481 82993 with photos of the damage. We confirm the repair is possible and send you our Meerut factory address. You courier the bat to us using any courier service — wrap it well in bubble wrap or cloth. We repair, re-knock, add a scuff sheet and toe guard, finish it, and courier it back to your door. The return shipping is included in the ₹2,000. We serve every city in India.
What if my bat can't be repaired?
We assess your bat honestly from the photos you send before you ship anything. If the damage is beyond economical repair — for example a snapped handle on a low-value bat, or a deep structural blade crack — we tell you upfront, before you spend money on shipping or repair. We will never take payment for a bat we cannot genuinely restore to playing condition. In some cases we may suggest a fresh bat is the better value option, and we'll explain why.
Do you repair bats from other brands?
Yes. We repair English willow and Kashmir willow bats from any brand — not just Ciel Sports bats. As manufacturers, we have the materials and expertise to work on any willow cricket bat regardless of who made it originally. The flat ₹2,000 price applies to all bats.
How long does a repair take?
Repair time depends on the type of damage and includes drying and curing time for glued repairs, plus re-knocking. Message us on WhatsApp with your bat's damage and we'll give you an accurate turnaround estimate before you ship. Splice and handle repairs take longer than edge or toe repairs because of the curing and re-pressing involved.
